On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu, together with former Nigerian leaders Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, joined numerous African dignitaries in Accra to witness the historic inauguration of Ghana’s new president, John Mahama.
Mahama, who had previously served as Ghana’s president, reclaimed the office after succeeding Nana Akufo-Addo, who had taken over in 2017.
The event was also significant for the inauguration of Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female vice president.
During his address, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s steadfast support for Ghana under Mahama’s leadership, praising him as a leader of “patriotic vision and substance.” He urged unity across African nations, reaffirming, “You can always count on Nigeria’s support.”
In his inaugural address, Mahama thanked President Tinubu and other distinguished guests for attending, vowing to enhance cooperation within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and strive for regional prosperity.
The ceremony highlighted the growing relationship between Ghana and Nigeria, presenting a shared vision of unity and progress for the West African region.
