The Federal Government has committed to helping Jigawa State rebuild and rehabilitate Majia town, the site of the fuel tanker explosion that resulted in the loss of 153 lives on Tuesday evening.
George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, made this promise on Thursday while leading a Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit to the state.
He stated that President Bola Tinubu was heartbroken by the incident due to his concern for the citizens.
Akume also expressed his shock, noting that it was one of the most devastating explosions the country has experienced.
“The President has mandated a thorough investigation into the incident and will take appropriate actions, demonstrating his commitment to Jigawa and his previous interventions in the state.
“We have visited some of the victims at Rashid Shekoni Hospital in Dutse and are here in the Majia community to convey the President’s condolences.
“Additionally, the President has instructed several agencies to come to Jigawa to help the victims rebuild the community and support the affected families,” Akume stated.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, part of the delegation, expressed his sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
He advised Nigerians against attempting to scoop fuel during such accidents.
Shehu Muhammed, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, announced that an investigation has been initiated by the corps.
He noted that, following the presidential directive, the corps would receive additional resources to help reduce road accidents across the country.
Muhammed voiced his disappointment over the tanker explosion and warned road users against violating regulations.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi praised the Federal Government for the visit and thanked the President for his ongoing support and concern for Jigawa State and its residents.
