Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticized the First Lady of the state, Betsy Obaseki, for suggesting that only Asue Ighodalo, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party, has a wife among those running in the state governorship election.
At the PDP’s campaign launch at Ubiaja Township Stadium in Esan South-East Local Government Area, Mrs. Obaseki presented Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, the wife of the party’s candidate, to the audience, highlighting the significance of having a woman in the Government House.
She stated, “Let us vote for the best candidate in the upcoming election. I want to introduce his wife. Among all the candidates, only one has a wife, and that’s our party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo. Here is Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, his wife.
“Edo women, remember that only one candidate has a wife. Having a woman in the Government House brings greater benefits to women. All women in Edo, regardless of political party, should support the candidate with a wife, as this will elevate our position.”
Oshiomhole, however, criticized the First Lady’s comment during an interview on a National Television.
He pointed out that the All Progressives Congress candidate, Monday Okpebholo, has children for whom he has invested in their education, and added that their mother took part in the recent campaigns with them.
“Our candidate not only has children but has also invested in their education. His eldest child is a lawyer, his second child is a medical doctor, and both spoke to the crowd in Edo South, Edo Central, and Edo North, with their mother present,” he stated.
