Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has authorized the establishment of a 10-member committee to address the new national minimum wage recently approved by the federal government.
This information is included in a statement released on Thursday and signed by the Head of Civil Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji.
The statement indicates that the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, will serve as the Chairman of the committee, while the Head of Civil Service will act as the Co-Chairman.
The committee will also include Shuaibu Ibrahim Amshi, the Permanent Secretary of Establishment, as the secretary, and Alh. Dr. Bukar Kilo, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office of the Head of Service, as the co-secretary.
Other members are: Alh. Mohammed Abatcha Geidam, Commissioner of Finance; Alh. Garba Gagiyo, Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning; Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Comrade Mukhtar Musa Tarabutu, the State Accountant General and Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC); and Bulama Musa from the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The statement noted that the committee will, among other responsibilities, develop strategies for the effective implementation of the new national minimum wage in the state.
“The committee will also assess the financial impact of implementing the new minimum wage at both the state and local government levels, as well as provide recommendations for government review,” it stated.
