Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South in the National Assembly, criticized the policies of the current administration.
He expressed disapproval of the Tinubu administration’s choices to eliminate the petrol subsidy and consolidate foreign exchange windows.
Imasuen, a member of the Labour Party (LP) and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, was a guest on Sunday’s episode of Inside Sources on national television.
He stated that it is Nigerians, particularly the middle class, who are bearing the brunt of Tinubu’s so-called reforms.
The lawmaker explained that the legislature can only assist the executive and hope their plans lead to a positive outcome.
However, he believes this is not the time for assigning blame, but rather a moment for people to come together and find solutions to the hardships faced by the populace.
“The measures being implemented are causing excessive suffering for Nigerians,” he remarked.
“We’re a country that relies on imports and are devaluing our naira. I don’t understand how this will benefit us.
Everything is linked to the dollar, which continues to rise.
“We need to develop our industries. Strengthening small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will greatly benefit us and provide the middle class with the breathing room to thrive.”
“Regarding subsidies, every country provides them, particularly in agriculture.
“Currently, many people cannot afford a bag of rice, which costs around N100,000.”
