Prince Ayobami Ladigbolu, one of the aspirants for the Alaafin of Oyo throne, has shared his experiences from the contest for the royal crown.
In a Facebook statement on Tuesday, the prince congratulated the newly crowned Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Owoade, acknowledging his ascension as divinely orchestrated.
Looking back on the race, the prince expressed regret over the actions of some supporters who shifted their loyalty to other contenders, influenced by financial considerations.
“The competition taught me the significance of money in one’s life,” he remarked.
“Some of the people who initially supported me later switched their allegiance to another candidate due to financial challenges.
When I sought their assistance regarding the Alaafin throne, those I had previously helped turned their backs on me.
“When it was my turn to receive support, those I had aided in their businesses distanced themselves. I hold no grudge against them; I’ve simply learned some valuable lessons for the future,” he said.
Ladigbolu expressed gratitude to the Agbonhin Sanda Oridota family and the broader Ladigbolu branch of the Agunloye royal family for nominating and standing by him during his candidacy for the throne.
In congratulating the new Alaafin, he said, “I extend my congratulations to Oba Aláàfin Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the new Alaafin of Oyo.
“He has been chosen by Almighty God. Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade was destined to ascend the throne, and I am truly happy for him. The entire Ladigbolu family joins in celebrating the new king. Congratulations, Kaabiesi.”
He expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his journey, including his siblings, wife, children, and other unnamed supporters.
The prince also emphasized the bond he shared with fellow contestants, especially Prince Kolade Tunde Sanni Oladigbolu and Prince Muideen Adekunle Oladigbolu, whom he referred to as “blood brothers.”
Ladigbolu urged the people of Oyo to unite behind the new Alaafin, stating, “I call on the people of Oyo town to support the new king. Kingship contests may bring some controversy, but we must handle it and work together to support the new king in building a prosperous Oyo and a thriving Yoruba land.”
