The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed the arrest of a teacher after a viral video surfaced, allegedly showing the teacher physically abusing a three-year-old boy at a school in Ikorodu.
The announcement was made through a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. The video, shared by Oyindamola (username #dammiedammie35), depicted a female teacher slapping the child’s face.
The footage was captioned: “Video from Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, showing a teacher named Stella Nwadigo mistreating and physically abusing a three-year-old boy, Abayomi Micheal.”
The video has sparked significant worry regarding the safety and welfare of young children in schools.
In response to the incident, the Lagos DSVA released a statement thanking those who alerted them to the video.
The statement reads, “We are grateful to everyone who informed us about the troubling incident involving a teacher recorded physically abusing a 3-year-old boy.”
“We are happy to announce that the teacher involved has been apprehended by Owutu FSU, and a thorough investigation is now underway.
The agency reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to safeguarding children, stressing that schools must be secure and supportive environments.
The statement further stated, “Indeed, educational institutions must provide safe, welcoming, and protective spaces for all children in their care. The State Government is committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of every child by enforcing strict regulations, holding perpetrators accountable, and collaborating with stakeholders to promote a zero-tolerance stance on abuse in any form.”
