President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Shamseldeen Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation.
This was announced in a statement on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled “President Tinubu Appoints Shamseldeen Ogunjimi as Acting Accountant General of the Federation.”
Onanuga stated that Ogunjimi’s appointment takes effect immediately, following the pre-retirement leave of the current AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein.
Madein, who has reached the mandatory retirement age for civil servants, will officially retire on March 7, 2025.
In announcing Dr. Madein’s successor, the Presidency stated, “President Tinubu is committed to ensuring a smooth transition in the management of Nigeria’s treasury while strengthening the ongoing implementation of the current administration’s treasury policy reforms.”
Mr. Ogunjimi, a career civil servant and the highest-ranking director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, brings over 30 years of comprehensive experience in financial management across both the public and private sectors.
He has also held various roles, including Director of Funds at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Ogunjimi, a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist, holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting.
In a statement about the appointment, President Tinubu expressed full confidence in Mr. Ogunjimi, stating, “The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation plays a crucial role in managing our nation’s treasury operations.
“Mr. Ogunjimi’s extensive experience and proven expertise will ensure the continued success of this important institution as we push forward with our economic reform agenda.”
Tinubu also praised the outgoing Accountant General, Madein, for her commitment and selfless service to the nation.
